I have committed a big no-no on this site. I haven’t posted in over 3 weeks. I’m sure that comes across as flaky and I’m also sure I’ve lost some readers.
Summer is always a busy time. School started for my daughter 2 weeks ago. There are plenty of excuses, but there are also things I could’ve done better to keep things consistent around here. That’s what I’m going to work on next — an editorial calendar. That sounds really official and like it would only be a good idea for the mega-bloggers, but you and I can benefit from these as well.
Tips for planning your posts:
- Use a calendar. You can sign-up for a free Google Calendar and easily setup themed posts on a repeating day. For example, perhaps you like to participate in Wordless Wednesday, you can setup a repeating reminder every Tuesday to prepare your Wordless Wednesday post.
- Decide a minimum number of posts you want to have on your blog each week. Schedule in time to research and write those posts before-hand.
- Look at upcoming holidays. Can you tie in those holidays to what you’re writing about?
- Schedule your vacations and breaks. Blogging can be draining work and every now and then you need to take a break. Have someone guest post for you. With planning, you can give them a few days notice to write a post.
Sometimes I fall into the trap of thinking I have to blog every day, but honestly, I can sit down and write a few posts at a time and schedule them to appear automagically so you (the reader) are not overwhelmed. I’m off to create a calendar now

I have been terribly slack this summer, too! You’re not alone! Maybe I should think about planning
Good luck!
I just started using Google calendar for planning my menu. Repeating recipes every two or three weeks means easy planning.
And I like the idea of using it for blog posts, too. Thanks!

I am totally there! I have been very negligent and trying to back off so that when I do post it is more thoughtful rather than rattling off the first thing that comes to my head. (In case you are checking, I am not past this yet.)
Hope all is well. Don’t you love Twitter? I enjoy that little bit of connection when I don’t have time to read everyone’s posts.

Girl - have you fallen off of the earth? I thought maybe you were only blogging here since your other blog has been abandoned….
WHERE ARE YOU

Hi, I met you on twitter and you answered a question about DM for me, so I came over to say hi.
I love the blog feature where you can create your post, then under Options, select a date for it to appear.
I already made 2 Christmas themed posts for Dec.

I found your site from a comment on problogger.com. I thought I’d check it out since its title is “simplyhis”. Love the title.
Looks like a blog for women… cool. I like your post here though, I have a hard time with this myself. I just finished on one series, “Mission of God” and trying to find out what my next series will be on. I’m sort of stuck. I have a few things in mind, but I definitely need to work on planning.
Thanks!

lol
God bless.
I found your concern of losing readers due to inactivity to be very funny. My wife and I have found on our site that when she doesnt post for a few days and sometimes a week or more, that it makes your readers more hungry. Especially since you have a great message to deliver. Keep up the great blog and may God continue to bless you and your family.
